Please share a memory of Susan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
NORWALK, CONN Susan Mooallem died peacefully on January 28 at Regional Hospice in Danbury, CT. Born in 1947 to David and Ruth Hendlin, Susan grew up in Elizabeth and Springfield, NJ, then graduated from George Washington University in 1969, working in Senator Edward M. Kennedy's office while a student. She taught young children for 33 years, as a co-founding teacher of Newark Beth Israel-NCJW Day Care Center and at preschools in Ontario, Canada and Livingston, NJ. The loving and beloved wife of Saul T. Mooallem, whom she married in 1972 and who preceded her in death in 2000, and a spectacularly proud and devoted mother and grandmother, Susan was an enthusiastic reader; lover of movies and theater; chef and baker; entertainer of friends; conversationalist; solver of daily New York Times crossword puzzles; and traveler who treasured her trips to Nantucket especially. She is survived by her sister Harriet; daughter Becca Goldblat and husband Harris; son Jon Mooallem and wife Wandee; and grandchildren Sam, Davis, Isla and Rose. Memorial contributions can be made to Smile Train, Doctors Without Borders or the Norwalk Hospital Foundation directed toward Dr. Richard Frank's pancreatic cancer research. Entombment will be held privately in Willowbrook Cemetery, 395 Main Street, Westport. The Abraham Green & Son Funeral Home is directing the arrangements.
