WILTON, CONN
Mary Frances Braun, 102, of Wilton, Connecticut passed away peacefully on February 1, 2025.
Born August 19, 1922 in Ridgefield, Connecticut, the daughter of Luigi and Antonia Bedini, she was one of seven children. Mary was raised and attended school in Ridgefield.
As a young adult she worked as a nanny caring for children and learning the basics of cooking, a passion that continued throughout her lifetime. During World War II, in support of the war, Mary was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and worked packing bullets at Remington Rand.
Throughout her lifetime, Mary enjoyed a variety of jobs, working as a teachers aide at Miller Driscoll School, a guidance secretary at Wilton High School, and a receptionist at Wilton Meadows Health Care Center.
As the matriarch of the family, Mary loved cooking and caring for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a kind, loving and generous person who always thought of others first. Mary was an avid learner, listening to talk radio and taking adult education classes to expand her knowledge. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and cooking. In her later years she wrote, with the help of her niece, a cookbook, "Cooking My Way," a collection of her recipes and cooking tips.
At the celebration of her 100th birthday she received congratulations from Senator Christopher Murphy and a Certificate of Special Recognition from Senator Richard Bluementhal. When asked about her secret to a long life she said it was "important to have a purpose, to be a good person, and to have faith in God."
