Obituary of Florence Finkel

WESTPORT, CONN Florence (Scher) Finkel, 96, of Westport, CT, formerly of Cranford, NJ, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on Friday, August 22, 2025. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 25, at 11:00 a.m. at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, in Norwalk, CT. Interment will follow at Willowbrook Cemetery, 395 Main Street, Westport, CT. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Florence's family relocated to Cranford when she was 11 years old. She graduated in 1946 from Cranford High School and was a cheerleader and was also voted Class Clown. And in her fifties, she earned a college degree. After residing in Cranford for over 60 years, she began a new chapter in 2007 and moved to Westport, CT to be closer to family and there she flourished and made many new friends. Florence loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother. On the exterior, as a young girl and woman, she was a real head-turner, yet her charisma and warmth revealed an engaging and magnetic personality. Florence's greatest gifts were her children and grandchildren. However, she was gifted in her own way with exceptional talents as a tennis player, knitter, sculptor, bridge player, phenomenal cook and homemaker, with an eye and flair for home decorating. Florence exuded positivity and was grateful for living a life well-lived. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. She is survived by daughter, Celia (Finkel) Solloway (Brad Bickford); son David Finkel (Katherine); daughter Julie (Finkel) Kuehnert (Matthew); grandchildren Jessica Solloway (Seth Frotman); Adam Solloway (Alyson); Sarah and Rachel Finkel; Ben (Chelsey), Ella and Tess Kuehnert; great grandchildren Olivia and Nora Frotman; Elizabeth and Andrew Solloway; nephews Jeffrey Goldenberg and his companion, Fran Willing; Barry Goldenberg and his wife, Carol. Florence was predeceased by her parents Herman and Teresa Scher; brother Joseph Scher and sister Sally Scher Goldenberg. Interment will be held privately at Willowbrook Cemetery, 395 Main Street, Westport. The Collins Funeral Home of Norwalk is directing the arrangements.
