Obituary of Deborah Rose Allen
WESTPORT, CONN
Deborah Rose “Posie” Allen of Westport died March 23,2018 at Norwalk Hospital. She was 63.
A lifelong resident of Westport, she was born Sept. 14, 1954 in Bronxville, New York to Craig and Barbara Allen.
She graduated Staples High School in 1973 and went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in early childhood education from Norwalk Community College.
She worked as an early childhood teacher, a switchboard operator for the Westport Town School Office, and a camp counselor at Westport Beach School for many years. She also volunteered with Hospice Care.
She loved to cook and to have the family gather for a meal whether it was at home or out for a celebration.
Her favorite places were Oscar’s Deli, the Arrow Restaurant, Westport Pizzeria, the old Pepper Mill, and Compo Beach.
She enjoyed watching her brothers play ball every summer and was their biggest fan and the Yanks’ biggest fan as well.
She loved her family above all else and was a much beloved daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.
She is survived by her brother, Wally Allen of Suffield; her sister Priscilla Berlepsch of Hamden; sister-in-law Gail (Robert) Hannan of Trumbull; and seven nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Craig and Barbara Allen, her brother, Craig G. Allen Jr., her sister Barbara H. Allen. and brother-in-law, Paul Berlepsch.
A private graveside service for the family will be held on Tuesday, April 3 at 11 a.m. at Willowbrook Cemetery, 395 Main St., Westport, followed by a memorial service at noon, open to all, to celebrate her life, at the Saugatuck Congregational Church, 245 Post Road East.
The Rev. Alison Patton of the Saugatuck Congregational Church and the Rev. Dr. Peter Allen of the Hingham Congregational Church of Hingham, Massachusetts will be officiating. Guests are invited to wear blue, her favorite color, in honor and memory of Posie.
Flowers are welcome, as well as memorial donations in her name to the charity of one’s choice.
Her family wishes to extend their heartfelt love and gratitude to Westport Rehabilitation Center and Norwalk Hospital for everything they did for her.
