When it comes to funerals, there is a variety of services to choose from. In addition to conventional methods of burial, cremations and green burials are also becoming common nowadays. If you are still new to the concept of natural burials, understanding it can be difficult. We at Willowbrook Cemetery, understand this and here are some basics so you have a clearer idea about them.

Green Burial- What Is It?

In green burials, the body decomposes in a natural setting without using any external factor to speed up the process. Green burial is a process of burying the deceased in such a manner that it has a minimum impact on the environment. This is achieved by not embalming the body and ensuring that the container and shroud being used are 100% biodegradable. Even though this process is comparatively slower it is considered the most eco-friendly.

Pros Over Conventional Practices

Green burials are preferred over cremations or traditional burials because of their many benefits. They do not require embalming the body and spending on expensive coffins or vaults. Moreover, these burials eliminate contact with chemicals such as formaldehyde fluid which is used for embalming. They also help conserve nature, by as you use biodegradable caskets. Many people also prefer using trees as memorials, making the process a whole lot greener.

Choosing The Cemetery

When it comes to opting for this type of burial, it is better to provide clarity about your requirements to the cemetery or funeral home. This will ensure that you choose just the right cemetery according to your budget and other preferences. Every cemetery has different policies and personalization that they offer for natural burials.

Green burials aren’t that mainstream yet and thus organizing them requires help from professionals. We at Willowbrook Cemetery, have arranged several such burials over the years and are here to help. For more information on funerals and other related things contact us today.
