Funeral readings are a way to express your feelings about the loved one you have lost. These readings are used during memorial services, celebrations of life, and funerals.

Types Of Readings

Because there are so many different styles and forms of funeral readings we at Willowbrook Cemetery have seen that people sometimes find it tough to pick the right ones. Make sure that the piece pays respect to the loved one. The different types of readings you can opt for include:

1. Religious Readings

Psalms are popular religious readings and some that you consider using include:

Psalm 23

“The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures;

He leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul;

He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for Thou art with me;

Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies;

Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

2. Non-Religious Funeral Readings

Non-religious readings aren't connected with any religion and could be excerpts from plays or a book. “To Those Who Mourn from Daphne Du Maurie’s “The Rebecca Notebook.” Is one popular non-religious funeral reading.

3. Quotations For Funerals

Quotations are commonly used in eulogies and part of a funeral service. The quotations can be from any form of literature, plays, films, and books.

4. Original Compositions For Funerals

Talented writers can pen original compositions as it lends a personalized touch to the funeral. Recommended compositions are narratives, essays, or poems.
