STAMFORD, CONN
It is with great sadness that the family of John Geni, announces his passing on April 24, 2021 at the age of 81. John will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 52 years, Caterina "Tina;" his three children Marilyn (Ed), Jennifer and John II and his 6 grandchildren Julia (18), Tyler (18), Olivia (16), Addison (13), Jackson (11), Grayson (10).
John was born in Sicily on May 27, 1939 to Maddalena and Dominick Geni. John had 5 brothers and 2 sisters. At the age of 8, he and his family came to the United States and lived in New York City on 117th Street. He is survived by his oldest sister, Francesca LoBue (89).
Growing up, John was a skilled boxer and swimmer. At the age of 27, he became a hairdresser and shortly after the owner of Hair Dynasty (later changed to One World Unisex) located in Riverdale, NY, for the next 47 years. John and Tina were well known and loved in the community.
Their salon was always bustling with the noise of hairdryers blowing, phones ringing and Tina telling John to sit down and take a break to eat the lunch she made for him. Many of their clients were with them from the beginning and looked forward to coming to the salon for their weekly appointments. John would never turn a walk in away, no matter how late it was. Together they epitomized the American dream, achieving all the successes they had strived for.
John and Tina's love for one another was unending, each year, each decade and now into eternity. They began as two, their love transcended them into one, like the rarest of trees. The love John and Tina had for their children and grandchildren, knew no boundaries, there was not a time they didn't try to spend with them or a place they would rather be. John had many nieces and nephews he loved deeply and they too loved him as a father and grandfather.
John was a man of few words, but the words he spoke were impactful and wise. He exuded a regal presence and was a soul all wanted to be near. He would often say, "his life early on may have been hard, but he could never have imagined he would be as lucky as he is today." He was so proud of his family and felt deeply grateful for how his life had turned out. John rarely got angry and had an incredible ability to focus on what was important.
John fought for his life everyday, even until his last day, asking what time he was going for radiation. He was courageous in every way and exemplified the true meaning of a gentle man. His character and grace will forever be imprinted on his children, grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed.
