Obituary of Arthur Marciano
WESTPORT, CONN.
Arthur Marciano, longtime Westport resident and beloved teacher, passed away on June 12th, 2017.
Born in Waterbury, CT on October 14th, 1928, Art was the son of the late Anthony Marciano and Giaconda Perugini. He was the youngest of seven children, and upon the premature death of his parents, raised by his sisters.
After starting a business, Arthur's Flowers, he entered the service for two years. He went on to attend Central Connecticut State College on the GI bill. He subsequently earned two Master's Degrees from Columbia University's Teachers College.
Art met his wife of 56 years, Suse (Ruof) of Calw, Germany, when she was employed as an au-pair in Waterbury. He started working in the Westport public school system in 1959, teaching fourth through sixth grades, and could be found working at Ed Mitchells clothing store during the summer and weekends. Arthur was passionate about teaching and known for his kind and gentle ways. He loved the arts, especially classical music, as well as painting which was a life-long hobby. More than anything he cherished time spent with his family and friends, especially fellow teacher Sidney Birnbaum.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his sons Martin and Tristan (Maite Castillo), grandchildren Sebastian and Javier, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Salvatore and Anthony, and sisters Rose, Lee, Gloria, and Louise.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 24th at 11:00 AM at St Luke Church, 49 North Turkey Hill Road, Westport, CT with a reception immediately following in the parish community room.
Entombment will be held at 10:30AM on Saturday, October 14, 2017 in Willowbrook Cemetery, 395 Main Street, Westport.
