Obituary of George V. Vergakis

NORWALK, CONN George V. Vergakis, 78, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 20, 2022. Born in Sparta, Greece, on October 30, 1943, he was the son of the late Vasilios and Vasiliki Vergakis. George immigrated to the United States in 1967 and lived most of his life in Norwood, Massachusetts. Beloved husband of Ann (Anagnos) Vergakis. Devoted and loving father to William Vergakis, Theodore Vergakis and his wife Stephanie, and Valerie Newman and her husband Robert. Adored papou of George, Julianna, Theo, Isabella, Aleko, Leo and Stella. Also survived by his three siblings, Pauline Vastis, Matina Papadopoulos and Peter Vergakis. George will be remembered for his tremendous love for his family, and his love of cooking and gardening. His sense of humor and stories will be greatly missed. Family and friends are invited to visit with the family on Tuesday, August 23, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 24 at 11:00 AM at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 238 West Rocks Road, Norwalk, CT 06851. Interment will be held at Willowbrook Cemetery, 395 Main Street, Westport at a later date.
