Obituary of John B. Jabieski

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
DANBURY, CONN ohn was born in Norwalk, CT and raised in Westport where he lived for much of his young adult life, working hard as a carpenter alongside his father. John was fun-loving and active; he was an expert bowler and marksman, and an avid fisherman and swimmer, and a Mets fan. He had a fascination for weather and a curiosity for nature and science. He loved to travel, listen to music, and enjoyed drinking a Manhattan “up” with his closest friends. It was at the bowling alley with a group of friends where he met the love of his life, Janet. The two were engaged to be married after a short courtship; however, just weeks after he proposed John was drafted to serve in the US Army. John and Janet were married on his leave before moving to Germany, where he was stationed for a year. When his service to our country was over, they came back to start their family in Norwalk, and eventually moved to Danbury where he resided until his passing. John was a hard worker and skillful carpenter and builder. He worked for many years as a plant engineer for Staples High School in Westport before accepting the head role at Hewitt Associates in Norwalk. He had numerous side jobs throughout the years, designing and building various projects, such as deck and sunroom additions. His greatest achievement was to tear down an old barn and single-handedly rebuild a two-story artist studio! For as hard as he worked, he was always there for his wife and children, family, and friends. When his children were young, he would take them out fishing, playing ball, sledding, and cutting down Christmas trees. You could count on John; not only was he tall and physically strong, but he was incredibly thoughtful, protective, and always true to his word. In most recent years, he enjoyed the newer friendships he found through the Greater Danbury Men’s Club. He had a gentle and generous spirit and was loved by so many. He will be greatly missed. John is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Janet (Walker) Jabieski of Danbury, his son Blake Jabieski and wife Claudia (Morse) Jabieski of Hilton NY, and his daughter Lea (Jabieski) Shulman of Darien, as well as his loving grandchildren Darah, Amaris, and Chester Jabieski and Elise and Greagory Shulman. He is predeceased by his parents Stanley and Mildred “MAC” (Clark) Jabieski, his sisters June Stoughton and Joann McSally, and his son-in-law, William Shulman. A graveside memorial service will be held at Willowbrook Cemetery, 395 Main Street, Westport CT on February 6, 2024 at 11:00am. The Neptune Society is directing arrrangements.
