Obituary of Rachel B. Glotzer

Please share a memory of Rachel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
NORWALK, CONN We are sad to announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Rachel Sondon Bassin Glotzer at home on April 9th, 2024. Rachel was born on March 4th, 1936, and recently enjoyed celebrating her 88th birthday with her loving family. She was the proud daughter of Charles and Ethel Bassin of Longmeadow, Massachusetts and was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Frederick M. Glotzer. Rachel grew up surrounded by a large extended family in Newton, Massachusetts, a time she remembered fondly. She graduated from Classical High School in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1955 and earned an associate degree in Retailing from Mount Ida Junior College in 1957. Rachel enjoyed a career in retailing, most notably working for 10 years in the jewelry department at Saks Fifth Avenue in The Stamford Town Center. The role she valued most was raising her family. So proud of her family, she is survived by her two children Elizabeth Glotzer Lebo (Todd) and Benjamin Bassin Glotzer (Kelly), as well as her four grandchildren, Robert, Lily, Ella, and Molly with whom she cherished spending time. Rachel is also survived by her sister Barbara Greene (Robert) and many nieces and nephews who she loved greatly and who adored her. Fiercely independent, her strong spirit was inspiring and admired. She was caring, selfless, generous, loyal, and understanding, speaking her mind and encouraging others to stand up for themselves, to be strong and to be true to themselves. Rachel welcomed and connected with people easily, always making them feel at ease. Anyone that knew her loved her, she was a true friend who made people smile. She accepted people for who they were. Her loving kindness will live on in all she touched. A funeral will take place at Temple Shalom in Norwalk, CT on Friday, April 12th at 1 p.m. followed by a burial at Willowbrook Cemetery in Westport, CT. In lieu of flowers, we invite you to consider making a donation to any of the following: The American Cancer Society; Building One Community in Stamford, CT; or the Pediatric Cardiac ICU at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital / NY Presbyterian.
