Obituary of Carol Gault Lane

RIDGEWOOD, NY Carol G. Lane completed her life journey on Friday, December 15, 2023. Carol possessed an unflagging interest in the world around her. She was an avid reader and lifelong learner with an interest in history and literature, and regularly participated in Osher classes through MU’s Extension program. Her love of nature and bird-watching were things she shared with her late husband, Eugene Lane. Her little red Subaru was often dust covered due to trips out on gravel roads to spot bald eagles or migrating ducks. She enjoyed travel and felt fortunate to have lived abroad in Greece for several year-long stays, where she learned to speak and read the language and embrace the food and music of her temporary home. An accomplished photographer, natural forms and the vernacular architecture of Greece were frequent subjects of her photographic works. Carol also served her community in numerous ways. She built houses with Habitat for Humanity, an organization to which she continued to give her support throughout her life. She was an active member of the congregation of Calvary Episcopal Church. Additionally, she was a member of the League of Women Voters, the Fortnightly Club, and several other women’s organizations. Above all, she was the keeper of both family lore and history, and was a natural storyteller. Carol is survived by her two children, Michael Lane and Helen Lane, her brother, Robert Gault, her son-in-law, David Frye and granddaughter, Carol Frye. Burial was held privately in Willowbrook Cemetery, 395 Main Street, Westport. The family asks that donations be made to The National Audubon Society/Bird Alliance, Habitat for Humanity, and The Boone County History & Culture Center. The Parker Millard Funeral Home directed arrangements.
