Obituary of Judith R. Marks-White

WESTPORT, CONN Judith Marks-White, 84, of Westport, Connecticut passed away peacefully on June 14 at the Norwalk Hospital in Norwalk, Connecticut surrounded by her family. Judith was the wife of the late Morton D. Rosenfeld, the artist and illustrator, and longtime resident of Westport. Born on March 21, 1940 in Passaic, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Katz and Eva Tobin Katz. Judith attended Prospect Hill Country Day School in Newark, New Jersey followed by Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. She then began her professional life in New York City where she worked at Time Life Books. In 1972, Judith moved to Westport and became the humor columnist of The Westport News with her weekly bi-line, The Light Touch and then In Other Words. In addition to her work as a columnist, Judith was an award wilnning journalist with articles appearing in magazines and newspapers throughout the country. She has contributed to numerous children's publications, Chicken Soup for the Soul, and has authored two novels. She was the recipient of writing awards in both fiction and nonfiction. Judith spent many years as an Adjunct Professor of English at Norwalk Community College in Norwalk, Connecticut, being honored with Teacher of the Year, as well as numerous writing workshops. She is survived by her, daughter Elizabeth, son-in-law, Andrew, and grandchildren, Andrew and Caroline. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 17, at 1:00 PM at Temple Shalom, 259 Richards Avenue, Norwalk, Connecticut. Burial will follow at Willowbrook Cemetery, 395 Main Street, Westport, Connecticut. Shiva will be held on Monday, June 17, from 4-8pm and Tuesday, June 18, from 1-4pm and 5-8pm, at the home of Debbie (Richman) and Jeffrey Selden in Weston, Connecticut.
