SOUTHPORT, CONN Joan Shevell, 93, died peacefully in Southport, CT on September 26, 2024 surrounded by her family. Joan was born on June 26, 1931 in Brooklyn NY to Dora and Irwin Isaacson. She was married to her beloved husband Jerome (Jerry) for 58 years until his death in 2008. Joan is survived by her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Ron Prentki and her granddaughter Emily Shevell Wise. She is predeceased by her son, Jeff Shevell and her sister, Selma Sleven. As a child, Joan was a talented pianist, winning many competitions. She graduated from Hunter College with a degree in Social Work and had numerous careers including antique dealer and chocolatier. Later in life she returned to school, graduating from the Culinary Institute of America to become a pastry chef and had the opportunity to work under the renowned chef, Jacques Torres, at Le Cirque restaurant in NY. Joan loved travelling, especially to Italy, entertaining friends at her home in New Rochelle, baking, going to inns and concerts, BBQ ribs, pasta and her beloved pets! Her home was always filled with the pitter patter of paws, including her cats Miracle, Figgy, Archie and her dog Tawny. Joan was known for her bright blue eyes and her beautiful smile that could light up a room. Even during her illness, she smiled at everyone, including the amazing aides who cared for and loved her. Joan will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially her beloved daughter Jamie. A private service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Alzheimer's Association ALZ.org.
